Jack and I arrived in Melbourne with no expectations on what we will see, do and where we were staying, so when we rocked up to this chic, modern building known as The Blackman (part of the Art Series Hotel Group), we instantly felt at ease. We indulged in their Stay & Play package which includes lounging around in their Deluxe Studio Twin Suite with a balcony, breakfast at the devine Classico Italian restaurant on the ground floor, bike/scooter hire, art kit (yeah, an art kit with a small canvas and paints! Awesome!!!) and car parking. What else do you need!
So let me begin on where this hotel is located. Only 3 km south of the CBD, tram stop 23 is located directly out the front and is accessible by all trams travelling on St Kilda Road. It's really just a hop, skip and a jump to all the shopping, parks and transport that you'll ever need for your stay in Melbourne!
So we checked-in after a bit of a play around ol' Melbourne town, and Jack gravitated straight to the art set of two small canvases and paints. How perfect is this thought for a family?!?! Chilling out on the balcony with views overlooking the Shrine of Remembrance, Royal Botanic Gardens, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Albert Park Lake, he was in his element painting the landscape surrounding him.
And how special did we feel in these beautiful rooms?!! The walls are adorned with art work which you can purchase if one really belongs hanging at your own home. We were spoilt with two queen-sized beds, a kitchen, study desk, bathroom WITH A SPA and views to kill for! Did I mention SPA BATH?!? (Jack is in heaven right now relaxing in it while I type this blog!)
Waking up the following morning after one of the best sleeps I've had in years (Jack even slept in to 8am - that's a record!), we slowly made our way downstairs to Classico restaurant for breakfast. Again, no expectations but greatness from this little Italian gem, and what we were served up was nothing short of spectacular. As part of the Stay & Play package, our breakfast included fruit salad, orange juice, tea and hot chocolate, and Italian Continental platter with a donut, croissant, condiments and roll and poached eggs on sourdough with avocado and roasted roma tomatoes. An absolute breakfast for champions, and it was absolutely delicious!
Sadly our little mini vacation came to an end too quickly and we had to checkout. We took our time combing the room for any runaway toy cars, and made sure everything was packed away in our suitcases. The 11am checkout time really suited me so I didn't feel rushed, and the staff at the front counter were so friendly and helpful, they even let me keep my bags there until our flights later that afternoon.
Anyway, with Trip Advisor, Wotif, Bookings.com and Expedia all rating The Blackman 4.5 or 5 stars out of 5, you really need to come and enjoy this wonderful place for yourself. It's the perfect accommodation choice for the professional on a business trip, couple on a romantic getaway or a family with kids in tow; Jack and I rate it 5 stars out of 5 as well. Location, facilities, the rooms, the added extras and of course, the really lovely staff have made our little Melbourne stay absolutely magnificent! We'll be recommending this place to all!
